Biography

Gaetan Legrand is a native French speaker teaching FR601C (beginning French).

Gaetan’s field of study is the representation of evil and injustice in prose and poetry from the Middle Ages to the 21th century. His inspiration to study mythical and religious intertextuality in literature comes from the combination of his passion for the interpersonal relationships between humans—past and present—and for their belief systems, and from his studies of the works of French theorists such as René Girard, Claude Lévi-Strauss, Michel Foucault and Roland Barthes.

Interests

Literary theory and contemporary French thought / mythology (Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Mesopotamian), ancient beliefs and religions / classical texts, epic poetry / Renaissance art (Italian painters) / philosophical anthropology.
