Application Instructions and Requirements for Graduate Admission

Application Deadline for Fall 2012 is Sunday, January 1, 2012

A.     The “ApplyTexas” common application for graduate study, available at www.ApplyTexas.org.

B. One uploaded copy of the official academic transcript from every senior college or university attended. For more information regarding transcripts, please visit http://www.utexas.edu/ogs/admissions/howtous.html.
C. An official score report of your Graduate Record Examination (GRE) results within the last five (5) years. Only test scores mailed or furnished directly from the testing agency are considered official. The UT Austin ETS code is 6882.
D. The application fee. A non-refundable fee of $65 will be charged to U.S. citizens for application processing. A non-refundable fee of $90 will be charged to international applicants. Note that the GIAC will not process applications without the application fee.
E. International students must also submit an official score report of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The UT Austin TOEFL code is 6882. There is no code for the IELTS. Language test requirements and waiver information can be found at http://www.utexas.edu/ogs/admissions/test_scores.html.
F. Personal statement of purpose (3-5 pages) explaining your reasons for wishing to pursue graduate study. Please state your area(s) of interest, possible specializations, and why our graduate program is well-suited to your academic goals.
G. Letters of recommendations from three (3) persons, including former instructors and professional employers.
H. Writing Samples – two (2) required essays (5-10 pages each) of your best scholarly work. One sample should be in French/Italian, while the other in English. 

All of the required application materials must be submitted electronically through the "Apply Texas" common application or through the upload modules made available after submitting your application. The upload modules can be accessed through the online application status check only after your application has been successfully submitted.

Applicants who wish to be considered for merit-based awards (i.e., scholarships, fellowships, etc.) and academic employment should complete and submit the departmental Funding Application Form. ONLY the Funding Application Form should be sent directly to the department. Please fax or scan/email the completed form to:
