French Graduate Program
The Department of French and Italian offers programs at the M.A. and Ph.D. levels in French Literature, French Linguistics, and Romance Linguistics. These programs are designed to train students in methods of scholarly research and prepare them ultimately for teaching at the university level. The M.A. degree, though it may prove useful as a credential for teaching in private secondary schools or in community colleges, is considered a step toward the Ph.D. rather than an independent professional degree.
