French Graduate Program
The Department of French & Italian offers programs at the Ph.D. level in French Linguistics and French Studies. These programs are designed to train students in methods of scholarly research and prepare them ultimately for teaching at the university level. The M.A. degree, though it may prove useful as a credential for teaching in private secondary schools or in community colleges, is considered a step toward the Ph.D. rather than an independent professional degree. Students with a BA or an MA (or their international equivalents) from an accredited university may apply directly to the Ph.D. program.
