Office hours may vary depending on time of year and typically occur between 9:00 and 4:00, excepting the lunch hour from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. To minimize problems, please check in advance (471-5116) to determine the advisor's availablility. Please try to obtain advising before the peak periods of registration occur. Advance advising is always welcome! You may run your own degree audit online through IDA (Interactive Degree Audit): http://www.utexas.edu/student/registrar/ida/.

Becoming a Major in Geography or Urban Studies

To declare a major in Geography, you may do so online at the College of Liberal Arts website: http://www.utexas.edu/cola/students/majors/declare.html.

You may also apply in person at the front desk of the College of Liberal Arts Dean's Office in Gebauer 2.200 or apply in person in the Geography Department advisor's office in GRG 332.

Although not strictly required, continuing majors should check with the undergraduate advisor periodically to share information on courses, discuss difficulties, obtain approvals, and to keep track of career, internship, study abroad, and honors possibilities. Please email or visit the undergraduate advisor to sign up for the geography major email listserv for updates and reminders as well.

Note: Until August 31, 2003, the Urban Studies major was managed by the Urban Issues Program. The Department of Geography and the Environment gratefully acknowledges continued support from the LBJ School of Public Affairs.
