Global, International, and Regional Studies

The Department has long been known for its faculty expertise on major world regions. The track provides an overview of issues affecting our planet, and prepares students for leadership in an increasingly interconnected world.

Note: track requirements were changed in September, 2001. Students may still complete the track using the former requirements, but the new requirements are easier to fulfil.

To fulfil the track requirement, students should take one course in global or world geography:

GRG 305 This Human World
GRG 309 or 356T Topics (where topic is appropriate, ie Globalization)

Plus one course on a major world region:

GRG 309 Topics (where topic is a world region, such as Russia or Polar Lands)

GRG 326 Regions and Cultures of Europe

GRG 328 Geography of the Middle East

Note: In addition to the above, all geography majors must also complete the core requirements in Human Geography, Physical Geography, and Techniques, and take GRG 374, Frontiers in Geography.

Study Abroad

Although all Geography majors should try to study abroad, it is particularly important for students in this track to do so. Please consider the Department's Oxford program as well.
