Please join the Department of Geography and the Environment for our fall 2014 colloquium series. We will be hosting a presentation by Madeline Enos, staff member in the Department of Geography and the Environment, University of Texas at Austin.
Two Wheels and a Hammer: A Summer of Biking, Building, and Affordable Housing Advocacy Across America
For the past 10 years, the non-profit organization Bike & Build has worked with young adults to produce service-oriented cycling trips, benefitting the affordable housing cause and empowering emerging leaders for a lifetime of civic engagement. This past summer, Madeline led a trip of 32 cyclists through the incomparable landscape of the Southern United States. The group successfully completed the 4,250 mile trip, despite the challenges of high mountain passes, cyclist crashes, stomach bugs, forest fires, and crossing the infamous Death Valley.
Join us for our first colloquium of the fall semester to learn about the Bike & Build program, contemporary affordable housing issues in America, and hear stories and adventures from the road.
