- Education: Ph.D. , Paul Adams received his Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1984 (Special Honors), and his MS and Ph.D. in geography from University of Wisconsin-Madison (1990, 1993). He was a visiting Fulbright Fellow and Thomas O. Enders Fellow at McGill University and University of Montreal, Quebec, in fall semester, 2001. Since 2003 he has been Director of the Urban Studies Program.
- Courses Taught:
Adams regularly teaches This Human World (introductory human geography) and Introduction to Urban Studies. He has also taught Geographies of the Information Society, Statistics for Policy Design, Urban Studies Research Methodologies, and graduate seminar addressing representation and political geography. - Research Interests:
Adams applies various geographical lenses to communication, addressing communication infrastructure, communication as a social process, and communication as an element of individual experience. His most recent works address foreign perceptions of the United States and the ways the symbolic construction of "America" has shifted in foreign media as a result of terrorism, warfare, and unilateralism in American foreign policy. His work engages with the growing body of literature in critical geopolitics as well as with humanistic geography and social theory. He has just completed a textbook called Geographies of Media and Communication (Wiley-Blackwell,2009). - Selected Publications:
