Biography

Samia Aquino da Silva received her bachelor degree in Geography from the Federal University of Acre, Brazil, her masters in Geography from the State University of Maringá, Brazil in 2002, and PhD in Environment Sciences from the State University of Maringá, Brazil in 2007. In 2008, she was award a fellowship from CAPES-Brazil to develop postdoctoral studies at Duke University-NC. She worked as Assistant professor at the Federal University of Goiás, Brazil; Laboratory Supervisor at EMBRAPA- National Agency of Agrotechnology Research, Brazil; Research Fellow at the National University of La Plata, Argentina; Adjunct professor at the Department of Geology-East Carolina University, NC; Research Fellow and Lecturer for the Department of Geography and the Environment at The University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Aquino da Silva research interests are in Earth Sciences with emphasis on fluvial geomorphology for the tropical South America, and impacts of human activities on large fluvial systems. Currently, she is a Lab Tech Supervisor and Research Fellow to the Department of Geography and Environment and spends a considerable amount of time conducting fieldwork in large fluvial basins such as the Amazon, Madeira, Paraná and Araguaia during the summer break.
