The German-Texan Heritage Society is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the unique culture that evolved as German immigrants settled and thrived in Texas from the mid-1800s onwards. Founded in 1978, the Society has a long-standing record of community enrichment, achieved through cultural events, such as the Christmas Market, Maifest (a Spring festival), and an Annual Meeting; through educational resources, such as book publishing, the quarterly Journal, a research library, genealogy services, a monthly speaker series and a German language school; and through social gatherings like the weekly Stammtisch (German-speaking lunch) and pot-luck dinners.
