During the early 1960s, Sonya, a high school student in Bavaria, takes part in an essay contest and decides to write about her town's resistance to Nazism during the Third Reich. During her research, she uncovers instead a history of collaboration. As her research progresses through the years and she eventually sets out to write a book on the town's dark Nazi past, the town's opposition to her probing questions grows more and more violent…
