Ideologies, Policies, Practices of Multilingualism: Perspectives from Germany in the 21st Century

This presentation will examine the underlying ideologies, policies, and debates, especially with respect to the role of proficiency in German for adult immigration, naturalization and integration, since Germany’s reunification. This lecture will also analyze educational policies and practices for German and other languages, comparing the policies and practices toward standard and community languages in Brandenburg in Eastern Germany and in Berlin, both former East and West Berlin.
