Old Elsinore
Lecture
In the centuries after the collapse of the power of Rome, legends shone in the north. In the borderland between myth and history, kings and warriors fought for power, wealth and love, and shaped legends that inspired countless generations.
In Denmark today, you can find the places where the battles took place, and you can see what remains. Is Hamlet's grave preserved at Elsinore Castle? Are there any remains of the hall where Beowulf fought Grendel? Could some elements of these myths be real?
In this popular lecture, we travel through the legends, the history and the locality. Welcome to a tour of Legendary Denmark.
Anders Lundt Hansen holds an MA in history from the University of Copenhagen and specializes in the early Middle Ages.
