Course Description
This course is intended to enhance your effectiveness as a teacher. It will focus on designing a syllabus, lecturing effectively, leading engaging discussions, motivating students, and constructing assignments to assess learning. Additional topics to be covered will include employing different teaching techniques for large vs. smaller classes, reaching different kinds and levels of students, grading and other types of assessments and dealing with some of the challenges specific to the nature of our discipline, such as the discussion of controversial social and political topics. The reading load for each week is relatively light. Emphasis will be on discussion and writing. Students will be required to carry out the tasks that are intended to help them become better teachers, such as design a syllabus, deliver a lecture to the class, etc.
