Course Description

Course number may be repeated for credit when topics vary. Political scientists talk a great deal about political campaigns but rarely describe campaigns or their effects in useful terms. This course focuses on the nature of contemporary campaigns as well as their role in facilitating American democracy. Topics include paid media, organization and structure, strategy and tactics, public opinion measurement, new media coverage, and fundraising. The course features 2 hours of discussion/lecture and 1 hour of research discussion/updates on a weekly basis.

Grading Policy

Discussion/Participation: 15% Leadership of weekly discussion: 5% Research paper: Outline: 5% Draft: 25% Final version: 30%
