This course investigates how and why the United States interacts with and participates in international institutions. The course draws on political science theory and data as well as contemporary policy debates examining U.S. activity and participation in international security, economic, and environmental regimes. The course also examines policies of democracy promotion and humanitarian intervention. Grading will consist of two 3-5 page papers (20% each), two exams (25% each) and attendance and participation (10%). All readings will come from a course packet available at Paradigm books.
