This course will provide an introduction to Bayesian methods in the social sciences including the advantages of the Bayesian approach over more traditional methods. Topics will include simulation-based estimation methods (MCMC), bayesian hypothesis testing and hierarchical models. We will also spend time covering latent traits models (including "ideal point estimation") including standard treatments and the advantages provided by the Bayesian approach. Students should have completed Stats 1-3 or the equivalent before taking this course.
Problem Sets: 40%, midterm exam 20%, final exam 20%, final paper 20%
