Course Description

This course is an introduction to American government and politics, with additional attention paid to Texas politics. We will analyze the American political experience both as it compares to other democratic countries of the Western hemisphere, and as it has evolved over time. In doing so this course seeks not merely to describe political events and processes, but also to explain them through a political science lens. Our principal goal is to develop students' analytical skills by which to understand the workings of government.
