Fulfills first half of legislative requirement for 6 hours of American government. This course is an introduction to American and, to a lesser extent, Texas government. The emphasis will be on the American political system, its theoretical foundations, its underlying values, its institutions, its primary actors, its national issues, and the making of public policy. In addition, the course will compare American government with other democratic and non-democratic systems.
Evaluation will include exams, short writing assignments, and participation.
