Course Description

Course number may be repeated for credit when topics vary. This course starts with constitutional foundations of the legislative process. From there, we examine the current motivations behind the actions of members of Congress. The bulk of the class examines the various influences on the legislative process including the political parties, the presidents, the public, and interest groups. We will end the course by reading STALEMATE, by Sarah Binder, an important new book in congressional literature. There will be three tests and 1 major paper (6 pages in length) as well as homeworks, random pop quizzes, and class participation grades.
