Course Description

Fulfills first half of legislative requirement for 6 hours of American government. This course is intended to provide you with a broad survey of the institutions and processes that shape the American system of government. American institutions and processes are the product of many decades of evolutionary development, political conflict, crises and setbacks. This course will examine American political processes and governmental institutions with an emphasis on their historical evolution and their cumulative impact on contemporary democratic life. The course will also give special emphasis to a number ofimportant issues relating the responsibilities of citizens living in a representative democracy.

Grading Policy

Midterm (30%): 25 multiple choice questions, 10/13 Short Answers Final (40%): Choice of 25 multiple choice or 10/13 short answers and an in class comprehensive essay. 4 Quizzes (30%) 5 multiple choice questions; Lowest score drops.
