Course Description
This graduate level course will explore recent theoretical writings on Latin American politics. The aim of this course is to acquaint students with important new theories in the field and to teach them how to design and evaluate theoretically-oriented research. The first section of the course explores theories of Latin American political and economic development. The second section exanies Latin American political institutions, including electoral systems, parties and legislatures. The third and final section of the course analyzes the causes and consequences of market-oriented reform in the region.
