GOV 382M • Marx vs. Rawls
3:30 PM-6:30 PM
An extended and reasonably sympathetic study of Rawls work on justice; and the seminar will have the additional advantage of running a close comparison of Rawls views on justice with those held (in spite of disavowals) by Marx. The seminar will also go into a comparison of their views on how to make the character of daily work self-fulfilling.
Besides readings in texts by Rawls and Marx, a number of arresting secondary studies by G.A. Cohen, David Estlund, and D.B. will be scrutinized.
