Education: Professor Karch holds a Ph.D. in political science from Harvard University.

Research interests:
Professor Karch specializes in the study of American state politics and public policy. He is the author of Democratic Laboratories: Policy Diffusion among the American States (University of Michigan Press), and his research has appeared or is forthcoming in Journal of Politics, American Politics Research, and State Politics and Policy Quarterly. His current projects examine the evolution of American preschool policy and the impact of campaign advertisements on voter turnout. He has recently received grants and fellowships from the Smith Richardson Foundation and the Brookings Institution.
