Posted: April 30, 2009
George Gavrilis has returned from Afghanistan, where he was invited by NATO to be briefed by ISAF, NATO’s mission in Afghanistan.
With a small group of other invitees, Gavrilis met with ISAF, diplomats, and Afghan officials. Gavrilis was briefed on the progress of building the Afghan National Army as well as the Afghan National Police. He was also updated on the international community's efforts to help Afghanistan establish functioning border controls.
Gavrilis recently completed his book, The Dynamics of Interstate Boundaries (Cambridge University Press, 2008). Currently he holds a Council on Foreign Relations International Affairs Fellowship. Between now and mid-January, he will be working on cross-border initiatives for Central Asia and Afghanistan in consultation with the United Nations.
