Posted: December 11, 2007
Prof. Rostow, who earned an M.A. at the London School of Economics, had been a fixture at the University for almost 40 years. She joined the Government Department in 1969 when she and her husband, the Economist Walt W. Rostow, moved to Austin at the end of Lyndon Johnson’s administration. Prof. Rostow held a number of administrative posts over the years, including a period as Dean of the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. She was team teaching a seminar on U.S. Foreign Policy with LBJ Dean James Steinberg at the time of her death. Prof. Rostow had many friends in the Government Department and was an active participant on the dissertation committees of many Government doctoral candidates. She and her husband founded the Austin Project, a visionary effort to attack problems of poverty and disadvantage in the Austin community.
