Departmental Scholarships
Students who apply are considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible. For most (but not all) scholarships, applicants should have a minimum overall 3.0 GPA, 15 semester hours of Government coursework completed, and be in good standing with the University. See individual scholarships for eligibility criteria. Scholarships are awarded in the spring semester for the following academic year. The current application deadline is April 19, 2013.

Applied Political Strategies Scholarship
Amount: Two scholarships of $3,000
Eligibility: 6 semester hours of government completed, including GOV 310L and GOV 312L or equivalent;Cumulative GPA must be 2.00 or higher AND Government GPA 3.00 or higher; PLUS: Statement of purpose explaining interest in campaign and elections, with an emphasis on digital campaigns and/or data analysis; successful enrollment in GOV 374N (w/ overall GPA criterion waived) also required. Texas Political Internship Opportunity Scholarship
The Government Department is accepting applications for The Texas Political Internship Opportunity Scholarship in the amount of $3000 for the Fall 2013 semester. The purpose of this donor-supported scholarship is to help support students who would otherwise have difficulty participating in an unpaid political or government internship.
To receive the scholarship, applicants must meet the minimum requirements for the Government Department Internship Program, apply and be accepted to the program, and register for GOV 374N.
The requirements are: Upper-division standing (60 completed semester hours); 12 semester hours of government completed, including GOV 310L and GOV 312L or GOV 3TX & GOV 3US; Cumulative GPA must be 3.00 or higher AND Government GPA 3.00 or higher; placement in an internship explicitly engaged in politics or government, as approved by theprogram director, James Henson.

Applicants must attach a one-page letter of interest to their application. The letter should explain the applicant’s internship arrangements (i.e. describe the internship), their reasons for pursuing the internship, and an explanation of how the financial award would facilitate the applicant’s ability to participate in the internship. Applicants must also complete a standard internship application, available at the website for the internship program (http://www.utexas.edu/cola/depts/government/internship/home.php),
All fellowship applications must be received by 4:30 PM, April 19, 2013. Note: only students participating in an unpaid internship are eligible. Students do not need to have a specific internship arranged at the time of the application, but will be required to start their internship no later than the first week of classes.

Victor M. Aguilar Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Amount: One award up to $4,000
Eligibility: Government majors from south Texas who are in good standing and have demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to graduates of McAllen Memorial High School.
George and Vickie Bayoud Scholarship in Government
Amount: One award of $1,000
Eligibility: Government majors in good standing
George Stuart Heyer Scholarship
(this award may not be availabe for 2012-13)
Amount: Up to five awards of $1,000 each
Eligibility: Upper-division Liberal Arts, Government major with a grade point average of at least 3.50; must be accepted into the departmental Honors Tutorial Program for the 2009-2010 academic year.
Joe R. Long Endowed Scholarship
Amount: One $2,500 award
Eligibility: The selected students should have demonstrated financial need, with a preference to students having an interest in pursuing some aspect of democratic studies.
H. Malcolm Macdonald Memorial Scholarship
Amount: Three awards at $1,000 each
Eligibility: Outstanding upper-division student majoring in government; 3.5 overall UT GPA; 3.75 GOV GPA.
H. Malcolm Macdonald Study Abroad Scholarship
Amount: Two awards at $2,500 each
Eligibility: Government majors who are in good standing, planning to study abroad in the summer of 2012 or the 2012-2013 academic year, and have demonstrated financial need. Monies will be released upon acceptance into a study abroad program.
J.R. Roach Study Abroad Scholarship
Amount: Two awards up to $2,500
Eligibility: Government student in good standing; study abroad for Summer 2013 or AY 2013-14; and study in South or Southeast Asia.
Edward Taborsky Scholarship
Amount: One award up to $4,000
Eligibility: Government major with demonstrated financial need; an overall grade point average of at least 2.50; and a grade point average of at least 3.00 in government courses.
Edward Taborsky Summer Scholarship
Amount: Two awards of $1,500
Eligibility: Government major with demonstrated financial need; an overall grade point average of at least 2.50; a grade point average of at least 3.00 in government courses; and registration for at least six hours in Summer 2013.
Jacqueline Eckert Timm Endowed Scholarship in Government
Amount: One award up to $1,000
Eligibility: Outstanding upper-division student majoring in government; 3.5 overall UT GPA; 3.75 GOV GPA; 15 hours of GOV coursework completed or in progress.
