Course Description

This course will study the slow growth of our modern idea of science, from the Hellenic and Hellenistic Greeks through medieval and modern times, and concluding with an account of our present uncertainties. The discovery of specific scientific facts and theories will be described as illustrations of the discovery of science itself --- of historic changes in its methods and goals.
