HIS 398T • Supervised Teaching in History
The goal of the course is to prepare students to teach creatively and effectively at the college and university levels. A significant portion of the early part of the course will be given over to discussing philosophies and methods of teaching. Those discussions will grow out of common reading, the teaching experiences of the students in the class, and the reactions of those students to their own experiences with good and bad teachers. Several faculty who have reputations as outstanding teachers as well as recent graduates of the program who are teaching in various institutions in the area will also contribute to those discussions. During the course of the semester each student will prepare a syllabus for a survey course in her or his field. The class will evaluate those syllabi.
