Course Description
This course examines the histories of the three East African nations of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania Chronologically, the course spans a broad period from pre-historical times to the post-independence era. Some specific themes include: migration and ethnogenesis; the Swahili city-states; responses to imperial conquest; the colonial era: the struggle for independence; and contemporary problems.
Grading Policy
Grades will be based on three short-answer quizzes (45%), a mid-term exam or a book review (25%), and a final exam (30%). The only acceptable reason for missing a quiz or exam is illness, and you must present a written medical excuse.
