Course Description
Research Methods in Early Modern British History. This research seminar will offer guidance for students doing research in British history from the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries. The first part of the course will explore the sources that are available both in print and manuscript and the procedures for accessing these sources; training in reading the different styles of handwriting of the period; and procedures for framing research topics, conducting research and organizing the results of that research. We will also read selected examples of published works employing different theories and methods. The second part of the course will involve the writing of a research paper and the oral presentation of each student's findings. During this part of the course students will meet individually with the instructor.
