Course Description
This class is intended to serve as an introduction to the use of Medieval primary sources. Among the sources covered will be administrative records (such as charters and cartularies, wills, and close, patent, charter, and pipe rolls) and legal records (particularly assize rolls, king's bench and common pleas records, and manorial rolls). Chronicles and a variety of ecclesiastical records, such as visitations and episcopal registers, will also be examined. An ability to read Latin will be helpful but not essential.
