Course Description
A lecture and discussion course dealing with the historical conditions that led to the American Civil War: slavery, abolitionism, sectionalism, economic and technological transformation, westward expansion and "Manifest Destiny," the Mexican War, and the rise of modern political parties and mass culture.
Grading Policy
midterms, 25% each; final, 50%
