Course Description
Long before Darwin, people argued about how to understand the creation story in Genesis 1-3. This class will introduce you to the variety of ideas that the story provoked in pre-modern times. Topics will include our relations to the natural world and animals, to sexuality and gender, to time and infinity, to divinity and evil, and to our own happiness and unhappiness.

Our reading list will range from early Christianity, through the Middle Ages and Renaissance, up to the Enlightenment.
