Course Description
This course will look at the Black Power Movement from 1965-1973. This period, which came on the heels of the civil rights movement, involved a renewed quest for black self-determination, black identity, and black nationalism. The course will look at Malcolm X, the Nation of Islam, the Black Panther Party, and other individuals and organizations that embraced the philosophy of black nationalism.
Texts: The Autobiography of Malcolm X; New Day in Babylon; An Original Man; and other texts as assigned. Grading: Grading for the course will consist of three essay exams and class participation. Crosslistings: AFR 374D
