Course Description
This course is aimed at graduate students looking to pursue a major field in European history, but students in other fields are welcome to join in. We will read and discuss a wide range of books and articles - some canonical, others quite recent - covering the period from the French Revolution to the end of the Cold War. We will use these readings to examine some of the leading theoretical and methodological debates of recent years, and will also discuss a variety of issues surrounding the craft and practice of historical writing.
