Course Description
This survey introduces students to major themes in U.S. history since 1865. Students will find that current social, political and economic debates have deep roots in U.S. history. This course introduces students to these roots and to the methods used by historians who analyze these issues as we draw connections between events from the past and those in the present. The lectures will focus primarily on the decision makers who shaped the U.S. social, political and economic systems while supplementary readings will highlight the actions of everyday people in reacting to, and effecting changes in, these systems.
