Course Description
This course, required of all U.S. History graduate students, is a reading and discussion seminar that will examine key trends in U.S. historiography from 1877 to the present. We will occasionally have guest instructors, who will be other members of the faculty who are expert in the fields under examination. Students will be expected to read and discuss material on a weekly basis. They will also be required to write two book reviews between 500 and 750 words (of the kind that appear in any of the standard journals in U.S. history). A final paper of 15 pages or 3500 words will focus on the historiography in a field of each student's choosing.
