Course Description

For over two millennia, Chinese have been on the move from the cultural heartland of the Yellow River valley. By the turn of the twenty-first century, these waves of migration have scattered ethnic Chinese throughout east and Southeast Asia, India, Africa, Europe, the Caribbean, and north and South America. Through this long historical trajectory and broad geographic reach of migration overseas, this course explores diverse patterns of mobility, racialization, ethnic identity and community formation, networking, economic strategies and stratification, and political activity under highly varied prospects of incorporation for Chinese around the world.
