HIS 350L • SOCIAL HIST OF CONFEDERACY-W

Course Description

An examination of the brief life and enduring legacy of the would-be new nation from the perspectives of different groups of Southerners. We'll consider racial and gender ideologies, class relations, political conflict, and regional diversity in an effort to avoid generalizing about "the solid South" during this turbulent period.

Grading Policy

20 percent: Engagement with the course, including regular attendance, participation in class discussion, and completion of weekly discussion questions based on required readings 25 percent: final examination 20 percent: 5-7-page primary document analysis 35 percent: 12-15-page research paper
