Course Description

This course is an expanded version of “Western Civilization in Medieval Times,” covering not just medieval Europe but the history of peoples in the “West” from the advent of writing to around 1500. It will especially focus on the interaction between cultures – Egyptian, Greek, Persian, Roman, Byzantine, Islamic, and European – and will explore intellectual, religious, cultural, and social themes as well as political developments. Students will read a textbook as well as documents produced by the people we are studying.

Designed to accomodate 100 or more students.
