Course Description
This is a broad survey course of military systems from the era of the Napoleonic Wars, through the periods of the American Civil War and Franco-Prussian War, to the wars of Western imperial expansion up to 1900. While there is an emphasis on the evolution of Western warfare, that of other parts of the world will also be considered. Indeed, a fundamental goal of the course is to establish a distinction between two basic forms of conflict:
Grading Policy
Grades will be based on two short-answer quizzes and a Mid-term and Final Exam, each of which will include essay questions.
