Convocation Speaker: Rob Thomas, B.A. History, 1987
Rob Thomas, is a renowned screenwriter, television producer and author. He is best known for creating and producing two cult favorite TV shows, Veronica Mars and Party Down. The American Film Institute named Veronica Mars one of the top ten television series of 2004 and Party Down one of the top ten television series of 2009. Mr. Thomas's other television credits include Cupid, 90210, Dawson's Creek and Space Ghost: Coast To Coast. Mr. Thomas has also written for the big screen with the 1999 teen romantic comedy Drive Me Crazy and the independent feature Fortune Cookie. Mr. Thomas is also the author of four novels and one short story collection, all for Simon & Schuster. Rats Saw God was a unanimous American Librarian Association Best Book for Young Adults in 1996. Doing Time: Notes From The Undergrad was an American Librarian Association Best Book for Young Adults in 1998. Mr. Thomas has also taught master classes in the College of Communication both on campus and in Los Angeles.

Graduating Seniors Info: Students must arrive in academic regalia at the west-side loading dock entrance between 5:15-5:30 p.m.
Guests Info: Guests may enter the Bass Concert Hall from the south entrance (north from Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium). The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are not required.
Special Needs Guests Info: Guests in wheelchairs or with significant mobility challenges should arrive at 5:20 p.m. and go to the southwest side of Bass Concert Hall, so that they can be assisted to appropriate seating.
NOTE: If you or your guests need a signer (American Sign Language), we must be formally notified. The deadline date and time is Tuesday, May 1st.
Pre-Ceremony, Free Fun Event: Consider meeting your guests between 3-5:30 p.m. for refreshments at THE GREAT TEXAS EX-IT OPEN HOUSE at the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center west of Memorial Stadium. They will be open all afternoon and it is just a three-minute walk to the Bass Concert Hall.
