The Center for Asian American Studies and the Institute for Historical Studies (IHS) presents a talk by Dr. Nayan Shah, University of California San Diego, entitled "Stranger Intimacy: Contesting Race, Sexuality and the Law in the North American West."

The presentation explores intimacies between global migrants and examines the intersections between capitalism, U.S. and Canada’s treatment of immigrants, sexual citizenship and race in the early 20th century.
 
Prof. Nayan Shah teaches history, ethnic studies and lgbt studies at the University of California San Diego. He is the author of Contagious Divides: Epidemics and Race in San Francisco's Chinatown (California: 2001) and Stranger Intimacy: Contesting Race, Sexuality and the Law in the North American West (California: 2011).
