Emilio Zamora to speak at Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center commemoration

Professor Emilio Zamora will participate in the public program entitled “600 River Street: The Long Road to Completion,” commemorating the history of the City of Austin’s Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC). 

The event, which will take place at the MACC (600 River Street) on September 26, 2012 beginning at 6pm, will feature a discussion by a panel of speakers who have been influential in the development of the community center.  More about the MACC can be found on their home page, at:

The event is free and open to the public.

Emilio Zamora is Professor of History and Fellow, Barbara White Stuart Centennial Professorship in Texas History, at The University of Texas at Austin. His most recent book, Claiming Rights and Righting Wrongs in Texas, Mexican Workers and Job Politics during World War II, has won several prizes including the Carol Horton Tullis Memorial Prize in Texas for 2009 (awarded by the Texas State Historical Association) and Most Significant Scholarly Book for 2009 (by the Texas Institute of Letters).
