Maidie Ryan, Convocation Speaker
B.A. History, 1996.  J.D., Law, 2001.  Life Member, Texas Exes.

Maidie Ryan is an attorney, philanthropist and community volunteer.  Ms. Ryan has been practicing law for almost twelve years and, beginning May 1st, will join Ascend Performance Materials as Assistant General Counsel and Director of Compliance, headquartered in Houston, Texas. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Junior League of Houston as Communications Director.  In 2012, Ms. Ryan was asked to join 1883 Council, a University-sponsored volunteer organization of mid-career alumni across Texas designed to grow future generations of alumni leaders through education and involvement.  Ms. Ryan is an avid runner and outdoor enthusiast, having recently reached the summit of Mt. Rainier as a member of a National Outdoor Leadership School expedition.  Ms. Ryan received her Bachelor of Arts in History with high honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1996 and her Doctor of Jurisprudence with honors from the University of Texas School of Law in 2001.  During law school, Ms. Ryan also served as the Chief Notes Editor for the Texas Law Review. 6-7:30 p.m.

Graduating Seniors Info
Students must arrive in academic regalia at the west-side loading dock entrance between 5:15-5:30 p.m.

Guests Info: Guests may enter the Bass Concert Hall from the south entrance (north from Darrell K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium). The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are not required."

Special Needs Guests Info:
Guests in wheelchairs or with significant mobility challenges should arrive at 5:20 p.m. and go to the southwest side of Bass Concert Hall, so that they can be assisted to appropriate seating.

NOTE:
If you or your guests need a signer (American Sign Language), we must be formally notified. The deadline date and time is Tuesday, May 1st.

Pre-Ceremony, Free Fun Event:
Consider meeting your guests between 3-5:30 p.m. for refreshments at THE GREAT TEXAS EX-IT OPEN HOUSE at the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center west of Memorial Stadium. They will be open all afternoon and it is just a three-minute walk to the Bass Concert Hall. Parking: San Jacinto Garage and Manor Garage are closest to Bass Concert Hall.

Security: Backpacks, tote bags or any bags larger than 12 inches in any dimension will not be allowed into any of the Commencement venues. All other bags, including purses, camera cases and diaper bags will be searched by security officers before visitors are permitted to enter the South, Main, East and West Malls for the University-wide ceremony. These smaller bags are also subject to search at the college, school and departmental ceremonies. We strongly urge all attendees not to bring bags to any of the ceremonies unless they are absolutely necessary. Those visitors bringing smaller bags should expect delays in order to enter the venue and those with the prohibited larger bags will be turned away.  Please plan accordingly and do not bring any packages that cannot be opened or inspected.
