Talk: "New Approaches to Understanding the Vietnam War," by Mark Atwood Lawrence, presented by UT's Continuing & Innovative Education Informal Classes

Wed, November 13, 2013 • 6:30 PM

Historians have been writing about the Vietnam War for many decades.  Yet important new discoveries and insights have emerged in the last few years, fundamentally altering the way the war should be understood.  This lecture will examine some of these recent developments and draw out their larger implications for assessing America’s role in the war.

Mark Lawrence, associate professor of history at the University of Texas at Austin, is author of Assuming the Burden:  Europe and the American Commitment to War in Vietnam and The Vietnam War:  A Concise International History.  He is now at work on a study of U.S. policy making toward the Third World during the 1960s.
