Biography

Rachel Herrmann hails from Manhattan, and earned her BA in history and English from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Her undergraduate research focused on food in the early American republic. Her MA work investigated cannibalism and Anglo-Indian foodways in colonial Virginia. Her dissertation has brought her back to the later colonial period, where she is studying food diplomacy between Americans, Britons, Native Americans, free blacks, and slaves, during and after the American Revolution.
