PBS to air polio documentary based on Professor Oshinsky's prize-winning book

"The Polio Crusade" airs Monday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m.

Posted: January 26, 2009

Oshinsky, the Jack S. Blanton Professor of History at The University of Texas at Austin, won the 2006 Pulitzer Prize in history for Polio: An American Story, which details America's obsession with the disease.

"The Polio Crusade," produced by the PBS history series "American Experience," chronicles the 20th-century effort to eradicate polio and includes interviews with historians, scientists, polio survivors and Julius Youngner, the only surviving scientist from the research team that developed the Salk vaccine.
