Second edition of History Dept. Alumni Newsletter published
The Department of History publishes the second volume of its Alumni Newsletter in September 2008.
Posted: October 7, 2008
This edition profiles faculty who have received teaching excellence awards and awards from outside The University of Texas, including newly selected Guggenheim Fellows. The newsletter also introduces the founding of the Institute for Historical Studies directed by Dr. Julie Hardwick.
Stories on special events of the past year include the very successful Come Back to Garrison (CBTG) celebration that invited alumni and friends to visit a newly-renovated Garrison Hall (GAR) and attend mini-history lectures for a day. Don't miss the glowing testimonials from the Normandy Scholars '08 after the completion of their three-week tour of World War II-related sites in Europe. And of course, one of the best events of the year, Commencement 2008 where graduating seniors were emphatically encouraged and delighted by New York Times Science Reporter John Schwartz's "Write Taller!" commencement address.
There is a complete list of recently published books by the faculty for alumni to catch up on their favorite professors' latest research findings, a two-page photo spread of the department's renovated building, an update by Chair Alan Tully, and a letter from the university's President William C. Powers Jr.
Alumni and friends are invited to view the entire newsletter, which can be downloaded as a PDF to catch up on what has been happening at the department.
If you would like to be added to the mailing list or would like to consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Department of History, please contact the Assistant Dean for Development Kathleen Aronson by email or phone 512-475-9763.
